Guest Post :: Why I Blog :: Tread Kindly

When I think of Ing from Tread Kindly this is how I imagine her.  Face to the sun, flowers in her hair.  Possibly surrounded by a menagerie of much loved animals at her feet.  I've not met Ing in really life (yet!) so reality needn't shatter this mental image I have of her.  And even if this image is worlds away from the truth of the matter, I'm not sure it's that far from the truth of her soul.

The Harshest Critic

It was that time of year.  Time to get to know the parents of the kids my kid shares a classroom with.

We sat in the sun sipping chai lattes and chatting pleasantly when one of us began asking around the table what we did.  There was a lawyer, a physio, an accountant, the director of a promising start-up – the rest I’m unsure of.  At first I was listening with interest.  What an interesting group of women.  Then my head got fuzzy.  Because I realized soon I would have to say something.  And what would I say?

Five {5} And Seven {7}

My kids turned five and seven a few months ago.  5 & 7.  We had a party.  It was fun.  They got presents.  That made them happy.  And life went on.

:: :: :: Four Birthdays, One Wedding and an Anxiety Attack :: :: :: {or One Hundred & Two Days}

Well.  I can't say I don't know myself.  102.  Quite a big number.  That's the number of days since my last post.  And I've spent a little bit of time beating myself up about that.  Even wondering if that was it.  Maybe I'd never post here again.  The end of One Small Life?  But something, a little niggle, a little itch, couldn't let that happen.

Lean In

Ever since the advent of that Sheryl Sandberg book Lean In I've had the phrase in mind.  It's kind of pervasive in that way.  Which is weird for a couple of reasons.  Not least of which is that I haven't actually read the book.  Also because I think the book (from what I've heard) is all about women leaning into their careers and I'm a stay at home mum.

Guest Post :: Life Long Learning :: I Give You The Verbs

So.  Annette from I Give You The Verbs.  She reckons she's excited to be Guest Posting here at One Small Life.  I reckon I'm excited to have her!  This lady is all kinds of awesome.  I met her through Blog With Pip (I know, I might stop talking about this group at some point.  Then again, probably not).

Speed of Life

I know I have been banging on about this a lot lately.  And I'm sorry for repeating myself.  I really am.  But.  (You knew that was coming, right?)  But.  I just cannot get over the speed at which life is travelling of late.

This year!  Where has it gone?  Almost June already, the middle of the year.  Life is hurtling along and I really feel like I cannot keep up.

Liebster Award

Do you know what a Liebster Award is?  No? Yeah, me neither until I saw a few of the blogs I read started being nominated for them, then I was all like 'What are these Liebster Awards and where can I get me one?"

The Leibsters are for new and small blogs and at it's core it's a lovely way of spreading the love by putting the word out there about new little blossoming blogs.  And it's lovely for readers too because there may just be some hidden gems in these lists of newish blogs.

Maybe you'll find a new favourite!  I'd like that.

Guest Post :: The Thoughts :: By Robyna May

Now here is a post.

When Ronbyna from The Mummy and The Minx and Chasing His Sunshine sent me this Guest Post she wondered whether it was "a little dark and strange" for me to want to publish here.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  It is because of it's darkness, it's rawness, it's truth that I am so pleased to publish it here.  And there is nothing strange about it.

Photo Albums

What do you do with your photos?

We're old school at our place, we still print them out and put them in albums.

Taking Stock :: April :: 2015

So I haven't taken stock for a while now.  I've been more concerned with my monthly goal setting.  But this month I've decide to shake it up a little.  I really like this exercise developed by Pip Linoclne of Meet Me At Mikes.  It looks like a simple little list, and it only takes a minute to read.  But answering these questions is deceptively, not difficult, that's not the right word.  Percipient.  They take some thought.  Some digging.  So, revelatory.

Photo Safari :: Museum Edition

Well, how lucky am I?

Last Sunday I got the beautiful opportunity to meet some wonderful women.

Most of them are also lovely bloggers.

And one of them was Pip Lincolne.

Guest Post :: Rainbow Choc Chip Life :: By Amy

I'm thrilled to be bringing you this Guest Post today.  Because this chic is ace.  I've only met her a handful of times but she is besties of a bestie of mine so I hear lots of good stuff about her.  And she's one of those people that once you've met you're like "We must get together again soon"  and they're like, "Yeah we really should."  But then you think "Oh they're just saying that to be polite" so you add, "No REALLY, we should get together again soon!" And then they back away from you slowly with that look in their eye that says "Okay crazy-lady, you're starting to freak me out."

Snail Mail

So I have joined this rather gorgeous little Snail Mail group.

Do you know about Snail Mail?  And Mail Art?  It's like a movement, y'all.

People are craving the beauty that can be contained in the simple art of a letter.  The soul that's lacking from a text or an email or a social media account.

Marching On

Woah.

Would 2015 just settle the hell down?  Why is time travelling at like super-morph-speed this year?  What's it all about?

Breaking The Ice

There was a lot going on in my mind when I crossed the threshold of the Travelling Samovar on Rathdowne Street in North Carlton.  Not least of which was why I had driven through Richmond to get there.

Guest Post: Potter & Bloom: Zen And The Art Of Crochet

 I gotta say, when I started this blog I never thought I'd be posting about crochet.  But then, I had no idea how intertwined the blog world and the crochet world are.  None.  But they are.  It seems there is a vast and endless array of super crafty talented people out there who do amazing things with wool and blog about it.

Compassion. Start With Yourself. #1000Speak

When I was a kid I hated that saying that you had to love yourself in order to love anyone else.

I don't know why, the idea of self love just never sat right with me.  It seemed weird.  Arrogant.  Conceited.  Or something.

The New Sunday

Well Hello There!

Fancy seeing you here, and on a Thursday.

Actually I'm very pleased to see you here on a Thursday because, as it turns out Thursday is the new Sunday.  I mean Sunday, pffft.  It's so four days ago.

Hello February!

Since saying Goodbye to January I've had a real burst of enthusiasm.  A little pop of energy.  A sudden feeling of needing to get on with things.  To get started.

Goodbye January

Happy February 1st!

Now it starts.  The business part of the year.  Up till now I've been in holiday mode.  Still somewhat productive, doing things like spring cleaning, adding to photo albums and getting kids ready for kinder and school.  So it's not like it's all been margartias by the pool.  But still, it's also been very relaxed.

Hello and welcome to One Small Life's first Guest Post for 2015!

One Hundred!

When I started this blog I was so scared.  It's funny to look back on now.  I wrote all these posts and didn't publish any of them.  I was so fearful of people thinking I was dumb.  Then I "published" them, but had the blog set on 'only I can see this'.  So I guess that's not really publishing them at all.  Finally  I was so keen for someone, anyone to read my words that I put my little blog out there into the world and hoped no-one would be mean to me.

Welcome Back {And Also When No Means Yes}

Hi There and Happy New Year.

It almost feels tardy saying that.  I really think "Happy New Year" is a phrase best kept for the first two or three days of January, but since I haven't been here since well before Christmas I'll indulge.
